Auberge Saint-Antoine - Our room

Thursday, May 14, 2009

$239 per night (I was quoted closer to $300 from home)

The artefacts continue to the rooms. Room number 604 - "la chambre des espérances." The room of hopes?

The patio door opens blissfully to the outside. View of St. Lawrence River was to the right. We had a porthole too.

Goose down duvet and pillows. Brave of them to have a white rug.

One bedside table.

And the other. An artifact is embedded in the white table with a little write-up about it. It took me a while to figure out the match-stick turned on.

Desk where we set up the laptop.

Electric fireplace, tv and Bose sound system, refreshment area, open closets. and, my pet peeve, the over-priced minibar.

Bathroom sink. There was a tub and a shower stall with Rain Shower showerhead - whatever that is.

Robes and slippers! The heated bathroom floor was a big hit.

Assorted items. I liked the hassle-free flip down ironing board. I played a Diana Krall CD because it seemed to suit the place.

Out on the patio. This is just so typical of Quebec that they wouldn't use any old balcony railing but would add that detail of the notch and the circle, perhaps to reflect the shape of the porthole. The day before I didn't believe the forecast for cloud, but they were right.

View of the patio below.

I'm a basic coffee kind of person so it sure surprised me how much I loved this 'Nespresso' machine. Plop one of those capsules in, push a button or a lever - I can't remember which, and voilà! - a rich but not bitter, delicious cup of coffee. Along with the city itself, this is one thing I really miss. The hotel probably sells the machines because they sell just about everything. You can even buy a whole bed. Glenn liked the bath robe so much, he bought one and wears it all the time at home.
